Operations team - (1) Need to allow about two weeks lead time for most parts.This week we hope to at least (1) find or compile a full power budget and determine a suitable generator for full AC load, (2) talk with Acumtentrics to verify three unit parallel plan and get lead times, (3) locate a suitable set of battery chargers / equalizers and hopefully remote monitors, and (4) possibly begin ordering parts. ![]() - review meeting 3:00 PM, Ruddock Library (rm 207).Those documents have been fully fused into this report and should be considered obsolete. Much of the initial work was a result of previous investigation by the 24V Power Supply Upgrade Project, which was documented by the Alice Electrical Organization project of Fall 2006, and led to a set of resources including the Electrical Team Power Budget, which indicates that we will need a beefier generator, and other such information under Electrical Team Related Resources. Also, we will insert safety cutoff switches to allow isolation of supply from loads and complete shutoff of each subsystem we hope to centralize switches and fuses near the server bank and we hope to remotely monitor the battery charge status. The dirty supply side will power the air compressor, and the clean side will power all other non-vehicle loads (sensors, actuators, servers). We then feed the "dirty" 120VAC and 24VDC from the batteries into a set of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) which output "clean" 120VAC and 24VDC. The plan is to feed in 120VAC from both the generator and the external "wall" supply through an automatic transfer switch, and use the output to charge the battery banks (now wired as two parallel pairs of series cells). We want to reorganize ALICE's power structure so as to isolate "dirty" and "clean" power, while having reliable 120VAC, 12VDC, and 24VDC supply systems. Also, we have sources of "dirty" (noisy, interruptible) power that we want to feed through a UPS to keep the devices on a "clean" supply side. Some of the electrical devices, such as actuation pumps, on ALICE use spurious currents and add significant noise to the supply, adversely affecting delicate devices such as the E-STOP switch.
